JCC CAMP CASE STUDY
JCC Manhattan Ensures Safe Camper Transportation, Saves Staff 10+ Hours per Week
Meet JCC Manhattan’s Camp Settoga
In 2016, JCC Manhattan purchased a 21-acre property, more than four times larger than their previous space, nestled in the foothills of Harriman State Park in Pomona, NY. Camp Settoga was born.
Camp Settoga features an Olympic-size pool, a multicourt athletic complex, a 16-element challenge course, and exceptional culinary and art centers. It’s the perfect destination for active adventurers and sports enthusiasts ages 4 to 12.
The Challenge
Every summer, the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan’s Camp Settoga transports hundreds of children from across New York City’s urban center to enjoy nature through a unique summer camp experience. Reconciling the transportation information for hundreds of children and staff attending Camp Settoga posed a significant challenge. With many parents waiting until the last minute to share their preferred bus stops, camp staff had to manually update transportation lists for each camper.
“Busing is paramount to the success of our program,” said Genna Singer, Director of Camps at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan’s Camp Settoga. “Ensuring accurate and up-to-date details is a significant priority for us and the hundreds of children we transport every day.” This pen and paper process was time consuming for camp staff, difficult to track and accurately report on, and fraught with the potential for human error.
The Solution
Why CampDoc?
One reason the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan’s Camp Settoga chose CampDoc was to reduce the risk associated with managing transportation on paper.
With CampDoc, bus stop selection is required as a part of the initial registration process for families. Now staff can easily pull a roster to see which campers are missing this information, and follow-up directly with those families.
CampDoc also allows program staff to easily organize campers into transportation groups. With easy-to-use reports, camp staff can assign and report on primary and secondary bus routes and stops for each family’s unique transportation needs.
CampDoc increases productivity and allows staff to focus on other priorities like creating a unique and enjoyable experience for campers.

The Outcome
Saved time and increased productivity
Collecting information electronically and eliminating manual data entry saved camp staff 10+ hours per week in the weeks leading up to camp.
Decreased risk for errors
Eliminated the risk of incorrectly transcribed paper records, to ensure that every camper was on the right bus, and drop off and pick up was as seamless as possible.
Instant access to camper information
CampDoc provided staff with instant access to camper health records and emergency contact information, which was essential during the long daily commute to and from camp.
The Summary
Ensuring that campers and staff are safely transported to and from camp each day is a top priority for the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan’s Camp Settoga. With CampDoc, camp staff now have the peace of mind knowing that all transportation information is accurate and up-to-date. In Genna’s opinion, “CampDoc increases productivity and allows staff to focus on other priorities like creating a unique and enjoyable experience for campers.”
