Quaker Haven Camp Saves Time and Enhances
Care with Electronic Health Record System

Since 1951, Quaker Haven Camp’s mission is to provide a natural retreat facility to support the youth and family ministries of the Western and Indiana Yearly Meeting of Friends and the wider Body of Christ.

Envisioned as a “corner of Creation,” the camp provides the freedom to relax and retreat in a natural environment and encourages a more introspective look to find meaningful relationships with other people and with God.

The Challenge

Campers at Quaker Haven Camp are busy participating in activities from the minute they wake up until the time they go to bed. Nighttime activities are often held in the gym.

One evening a camper accidentally hit her head, and immediately went to the camp nurse for evaluation. The nurse determined that it would be safest to contact the camper’s family and to have the camper assessed at a nearby hospital. Whenever a camper needs to be taken to an offsite urgent care or emergency room, camp staff always bring a copy of the camper’s medical form.

Andrew Heald, Director of Christian Education at Quaker Haven Camp, explains that before CampDoc he would have to “travel across camp and sort through paper records to find the right form for the right person, wasting valuable time.”

The Solution

As soon as the camp nurse decided to have this camper evaluated at the hospital, one staff member went to get a car, while Andrew printed the camper’s health profile from CampDoc. Andrew was able to print the camper’s full medical history and hand it off to the staff member traveling to the hospital without wasting any time. Once the camper arrived at the hospital, the emergency room doctors were able to quickly review the camper’s medical record and treat the camper properly.

The Summary
